This Women’s Health Month, we’re empowering you to take charge of your health. Expanding on the pillars that shape CanPrev Women, we will be highlighting the health journeys of four amazingly courageous women. Women who felt that something was ‘off’ in their bodies, and took matters into their own hands in an effort to reclaim their health. We hope these stories inspire you to take a page out of their book, so you can feel your best.
Dear readers,
Reaching out for help may feel overwhelming at first. And it may not always be an easy or straightforward path. But, it can be very rewarding in the end.
This was the case for Jill Bunny, a multiple sclerosis (MS) warrior and thyroid cancer survivor. Jill started her career in the health and fitness industry as a competitive fitness model, a role that was as fulfilling for her as it was demanding. As she was experiencing success in the business, she started to notice exhaustion, fatigue, balance issues, and declining eye health set in.
After several tests from healthcare professionals, she was diagnosed with MS, and shortly afterwards, thyroid cancer. This meant her career as a fitness model and competitor was coming to an end. To Jill, it seemed like there was no way she was going to come out the better end. This made her question what she was going to do next.
During difficult times, there’s no shame in asking for help. We all have our ups and downs in life, and sometimes a helping hand is all we need to get back on our feet and rediscover ourselves. For Jill, it was her husband, a functional medicine doctor, and CanPrev.
The takeaway? Seek help when navigating difficult times. Your health and wellness journey is a team effort, and knowing who to reach out to can make a world of a difference.
Check out our conversation with Jill, as she tells us about her life experiences, from athlete to coach, and how she used opportunities to seek help and connect with like-minded people during every challenge she faced, especially while dealing with MS and battling thyroid cancer.
Until next time,
