This Women’s Health Month, we’ll be highlighting the journeys of five amazingly courageous women and their paths to self-discovery, self-acceptance and self-care. We want to empower and recognize their bravery and hope that their stories inspire you to make decisions that help you feel your best.
The way we think about bodies can influence the way we care for ourselves. Being comfortable in our own skin gives us the confidence to move through life with light and love. While it may not always feel this way, we have the ability to shift the narrative and cherish ourselves just as we are.
Rising above self-judgment
When our harshest judgements find their voice, how do we rise above them? For Faye, she starts by asking herself a simple question, “Is this true?” Faye embraces the beauty of her uniqueness, finding strength in her individuality and authenticity. She expresses gratitude for her body as it allows her to experience everything that life has to offer.
Pause and pivot
Throughout her self-love journey, Athina has learned to pivot when negative thoughts come knocking. Instead of letting them linger, she takes charge by affirming to herself, “I am fabulous!” Athina’s story reminds us that we are beautiful in every shape and stage of life.
Shining a light on self-worth
Despite moments of negative self-talk, Jessie gently reassures herself that those thoughts are fleeting and do not define her true worth. Our self-criticisms are often a signal that we need to make time for self-care. Yet, what truly fills her heart with awe is the amazing gift her body has given her—the birth of her daughter. Her story reminds us that what matters most is the magic we bring into the world.
Finding kindness within
How we feel about our bodies is often linked to the compassion we offer ourselves. When battling with moments of self-judgment, Cathy extends the same kindness to herself that she would her closest friend. It’s in these moments of self-compassion that Cathy finds her strength. She recognizes that her body, like herself, is a beautiful work in progress.
Strength in spirituality
Navigating the rollercoaster of weight fluctuations can cast a long and daunting shadow over our sense of self. How many of us have grappled with feeling insecure and uncomfortable in our own bodies? When dealing with difficult thoughts and emotions, Kim leans on her spirituality. Her faith reminds her of her self-worth and the beauty she has to offer to this world.
By choosing to love our bodies, we are also choosing our own happiness. What does building a healthy relationship with your body look like? Check out our full conversation with Faye, Athina, Jessie, Cathy and Kim as they share their stories.
